We are looking for a motivated and engaged scientific leader to join us as an Associate Director for our Oligo Assay Development team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. This is an exciting opportunity for you to lead a team of scientists responsible for selection of suitable cell models. You will develop cell-based assays for driving chemistry optimization in diverse oligonucleotide projects, generation of target biology data, and supporting development of AstraZeneca's targeting toolbox.

What you will do:
As an Associate Director you will provide coaching, training and development to your team members and build a motivated and goal driven team. You will develop and maintain a high level of science and technology knowledge to drive the team vision. As well as build proposals to improve practices for development of profiling assays for oligo discovery as well as for cell and tissue-targeting of therapeutic oligos.

With your thorough knowledge of the drug discovery process, you will lead from the lab and deliver to exciting projects. The role also includes leading aspects of multidisciplinary projects related to drug discovery or technology development and you will work across skill groups within and outside of your own function. As an Associate Director you are part of the Cell Sciences Sweden leadership team with a key responsibility in helping to drive the performance of our department.

Essential in the role:

* Experience and demonstrated strong leadership capabilities with emphasis on people management.
* PhD in Cell Biology or a related field, or a BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
* Expertise in assay development of high-quality cell assays for screening and profiling, preferably including knowledge of statistical design of experiments for optimization of assay performance.
* Extensive experience and expertise in assay design and technology using a wide range of techniques including qPCR, qRT-PCR, sequencing and microscopy.
* Proven expertise in oligonucleotide research and in vitro pharmacology.

Desirable in the role:

* Experience of multiple techniques for assessment of mRNA levels, including RNAseq and higher throughput variants thereof.
* Expertise in bioinformatics for design and analysis of oligonucleotide research.
* Experience in establishing and leading external collaborations and technology change projects to advance or establish new capabilities.
