Department of Global Political Studies
The Department of Global Political Studies is a multidisciplinary research and educational environment with Bachelor programs in European Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER), Diversity Studies, International Relations, Human Rights, and Political Science. There are two Masters programs - in IMER and Global Politics - as well as two Ph.D. programs in the same subjects. The Department's educational programs and research focus on global processes of change and their impact on societies and individuals. Our research environment also includes the research institute MIM (Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare) and the research platforms RUCARR (Russia and the Caucasus Regional Research) and REDEM (Rethinking Democracy). Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM)
MIM was established in 2007 and is an international research centre with a multidisciplinary profile and a strong international presence in the research field of migration. Within the center and its extensive network, researchers develop, explore and exchange knowledge of international migration and ethnic diversity. Currently MIM includes about 40 researches including IMER PhD which are enrolled at the Department of Global Political studies. Read more here.

Content and work responsibilities
National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) is a EU AMIF funded six-years long transnational project which aims to prepare key actors in the integration field in 15 EU Member States to better face the current challenges and improve the integration outcomes of beneficiaries of international protection. NIEM will establish a mechanism for a biennial, comprehensive evaluation of the integration of beneficiaries of international protection to provide evidence on gaps in integration standards, identify promising practices and evaluate the effects of legislative and policy changes.

The tasks to be undertaken by the research assistant will include:

• The organisation, coordination, hosting and documentation of project events.
• Conducting observation and focus group meetings.
• The transcription of the discussions during the focus groups and the translation of these into English.
• Translation and interpretation from and to Swedish/English/Arabic.
• Co-writing reports and articles based on observations and focus groups.

This will all be undertaken in coordination and under the supervision of the project leader.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this specific position, the applicant must have:

• A Master degree in the area of social science
• Well-documented experience of organizing and conducting interviews or focus groups
• Experience of working with refugees
• Fluent in Swedish, English and Arabic
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to conduct and lead independent work

The following are meritorious for the position:

• Masters degree with focus on migration studies, refugee studies or Middle Eastern studies
• Experience of translation and transcription for academic research
• Non-academic work experience related to working with vulnerable populations and experience of handing sensitive data (candidates who have experience working with refugee would be preferred)
• Experience working on issues related to integration or belonging with migrants
