ESS is now looking for a Neutron Scattering Systems (NSS) Lead Integration Engineer for the Technical Projects Group within the NSS Project Division, organised in the Technical Directorate.

The position is full time, permanent with place of employment in Lund.

The NSS Project Division is responsible for construction and commissioning of the neutron beam instruments for the ESS. The scope of the division includes neutron detectors and data acquisition electronics, chopper systems, experiment control systems, electrical and service infrastructure, instruments and the neutron bunker. As a substantial portion of the scope of the division is being delivered by in-kind (IK) partners from the European member states, management of IK delivery is a major focus.

The Technical Projects Group is responsible for engineering management of the neutron beam instruments, support for common projects (such as choppers, sample environment, detectors, beam monitors, shielding systems and shutter systems), and the delivery of NSS electrical infrastructure.

The NSS Lead Integration Engineer is a critical position within the NSS Technical Projects Group. In addition to leading on NSS Mechanical Systems Design, the NSS Lead Integration Engineer supervises and coordinates the design integration of the NSS scope in the facility.

Duties and responsibilities:

Your main areas of responsibilities as NSS Lead Integration Engineer will be to support NSS mechanical systems design and integration:

• Ensuring install ability, operability and maintainability of the NSS scope through a robust integration process (Instrument components, shielding systems and infrastructure).
• Representing NSS in reviews, to verify, mechanical design work, of critical importance for manufacturing and installation
• Supporting the Mechanical Engineers, working on delivering NSS scope, with guidance and recommendations on ESS design practices and engineering processes.
• Ensuring principles of robust design are implemented taking into account general ESS practices and guidelines where applicable
• Supporting/leading procurements of TPG project scope when needed.
• Supporting NSS planning effort and advise on criticality and opportunities

About you:

To succeed in this role the appointee will need to display strong technical expertise along with exceptional leadership and project management skills. The appointee shall furthermore be able to progress multiple tasks & projects to tight deadlines. The Lead Integration Engineer reports to the Technical Projects Group Leader.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar is a prerequisite
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering or other highly technical environment is a prerequisite.
• Experience in drafting using ISO GPS is welcome
• Proficiency in performing mechanical engineering design work and delivery of related documentation,
• Experience in verification and review of mechanical design work
• Experience in the 3D CAD tool Catia V6 for developing and maintaining models is required
• Demonstrated experience in the construction and installation from large scale construction and/or installations projects, preferably within Radioactive and/or Safety classifications
• Demonstrated experience of training less experienced engineers
• Experience in the preparation of tender documentation, including cost estimates, for construction projects preferred
• Experience in supervision and coordination of subcontractors and installation work, including that of documentation preparation, preferred
• Demonstrated ability in In-kind Coordination
• Proficiency in project planning and management
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
• Experience in negotiating and building consensus, effective teaming and conflict resolution
• Skilled at building productive and sustainable internal and external collaborations
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite
