We are currently looking to hire a Medical Scientist within CVMD Translational Medicine Unit in Early Clinical Development that will be placed in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Early Clinical Development is a dedicated clinical scientific resource for AstraZeneca's early development portfolio, which provides a translational medicine capability to rapidly understand the disease target and the potential of our candidate drugs in humans. We enable translational medicine by: human target validation earlier in research, optimisation of the clinical trial process, integration of multiple, relevant data sources to better inform investment decisions, and timely scientific insights gathered and shared more broadly across AstraZeneca.

As a Medical Scientists you will be a resource for the Clinical Project Team. Medical Science Director-delegates working synergistically with physicians in projects as an expert in medical scientific aspects of the candidate drug and its development. Your accountabilities are broad and depend upon the exact phase of development and specific needs of the project, though a core accountability is the medical & scientific support for the development and maintenance of the clinical development strategy. Additional physician-delegated tasks may include supporting the set-up, conduct, reporting and regulatory submission of clinical trials, liaison with discovery, regulatory, clinical and commercial colleagues, input to regulatory documentation, external relationship management and review of literature pertaining to the drug candidate(s) under development.

We are looking for you that can ensure that all project activities are undertaken to the highest ethical and safety standards and in compliance with GCP, regulatory & appropriate pharmaceutical code requirements.

As a Medical Scientist you can expect to get a broad exposure to other functions involved in the drug development process, gaining an overview of how strategic direction is set and how decisions are made during drug development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Depending on the competence and experience of the Medical Scientist, and the needs of the specific project, they may take on tasks delegated by the project physician where appropriate:

• Represent the Project and indication area internally and support externally as a medical scientific expert
• Supports development of the projects clinical strategy and ensures and champions consistent medical & scientific aspects of the clinical study plans across the programme
• Develops clinical evidence of functional relevance for targets in human disease to support the IMED
• Provide medical scientific leadership to data and safety reviews ensuring consistency throughout the process
• Provide medical science support to studies working with the physician as appropriate
• Maintains an understanding and awareness of new and emerging clinical knowledge and treatments in the CVMD area
• Represent AstraZeneca as a support for steering/organizing committees, investigator meetings and external advisory boards for the project/candidate drug

Essential Requirements
• Relevant Clinical or Biomedical Ph.D or relevant Pharmacy, Nursing, MSc/MRes degree.
• >3 years R&D experience or clinical research experience
• A proven track record of research in cardiovascular and metabolic disease
• A understanding of drug development
• Demonstrable patient centric perspective of CVMD disease
• A clear demonstration of behaviours of:

• Agile responsiveness to scientific data
• Embracing of peer review
• Agnostic to internal-external sourcing
