The Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is looking for an energetic and motivated person to lead the renowned WHO ADR Signal process to a new level. This is a great opportunity to influence global Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) surveillance and apply your skills in a dynamic, forward-looking environment.
This challenging, high-profile position with an international outlook offers the right person with vision and excellent interpersonal skills the opportunity to build on the UMC's pioneering work in signal detection and analysis. Major signals have been published in key international journals, and press releases have led to newspaper articles globally.
We are looking for a medical assessor who will
* Become Editor of the unique WHO ?'Signal' document circulated on a regular basis to over 80 National Centres (MPA, FDA, MHRA etc) that make up the WHO Programme and take it on to higher levels
* Prepare publication of suspected ADRs for major international publications
* Work on the further development and use of the internationally ground breaking data-mining tool (BCPNN) used by the UMC for the WHO International Drug Monitoring Programme
* Instigate and drive research projects and the production of academic publications from the ?'Signal' document
* Lead the signal detection team to even more effective processes
* Present UMC signal work and output at major international conferences
* Participate in the planning and implementation of signal detection and analysis on other datasets
* Maintain excellent relationships with a wide range of professionals internally and externally: the UMC's expert signal reviewer panel, staff of the WHO Programme national centres, and other leading experts in pharmacovigilance
* Actively contribute with medical input to WHO Programme classifications.
Essential qualifications and attributes
* University medical degree
* Good written and spoken English; other languages useful
* High level interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to motivate a team
* Good organizational skills
* Good knowledge and competence in Microsoft software.
Preference will be given to applicants with
* Experience working in drug safety/pharmacovigilance or pharmacoepidemiology
* Knowledge of medical terminologies
* Higher degrees or professional qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g. clinical pharmacology
For employment in Sweden, you will need to have a valid work permit, or a European Union/EEA passport.
You will report to the Manager of the Safety Support and Services team, and work closely with the head of the Research team and senior management at the Centre.
This is a new position, so immediate availability may have priority.
Your salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
