ABB Traction Motors Sweden is responsible for the sale, order design and manufacturing of traction motors. Our customers are mainly train manufacturers or propulsion system providers which supplies vehicles for different applications such as locomotives, high-speed trains, regional trains, metros, tramways, and heavy electrical vehicles for off road.

We are seeking a Mechanical Motor Designer to join our team of experts in designing and developing high performance electric motors. Today we are approximately 10 people working in the engineering team for railway and mobile e-power products. The main responsibility in the engineering team is to provide technical solutions in the bid process and develop final designs in in custom order project to tailor the motor.
Your responsibilities
In the quotation process you will be responsible to develop and design high-performance electric motors for propulsion systems based on customer requirements.
You will coordinate on cross-functional activities with experts in electrical and sales team in delivering optimal solutions that meet customer requirements with the right quality on time and at right cost.
In addition, ensure that internal design and manufacturing rules are followed. Define, lead, and evaluate tests to verify the mechanical design.
Responsible to evaluate if and how applicable standards can be fulfilled during offering and project execution.
Contribute to continuous improvement through learning, developing working methods and calculation tools.
Applying state-of-the-art design methods, tools, and engineering practices to design development.
Being a part of customer project execution teams to develop the detailed design, deliver technical documentation and support other functions within the project.

Your background
To suit this role, you need to have a solid interest in technology and have personal leadership skills.
You hold a Master of Science degree or in the final stage of your studies in mechanical engineering or equivalent e.g. product design, preferably including elements of rotating electrical machines.
Alternatively, you hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, combined with several years of work experience from rotating electrical machinery.
Experience from rotating, cast, welded components and bearing arrangements and as well insights in manufacturing methodology, quality to create cost-effective designs that meet customers' requirements are meritorious.
As part of a global multicultural organization, you are fluent in English, written and spoken alike, whereas knowledge of Swedish is preferred.
On a personal level you are open minded and always strive to understand customer requirements and to find the best possible solution, based on our unique concepts.
Experience from vehicles with electric motors and system knowledge with electric motors are meritorious and as well experience in working with 3D CAD, SolidWorks and PDM system, Teamcenter.
You distinguish yourself with an analytical mind and an ability to make sound decisions regarding technical solutions and a helpful and service-minded attitude.
