Vehicle Automation is a game changer and is a highly prioritized technology area at Volvo Group Truck Technology (GTT). Within Advanced Technology and Research, Vehicle Technology and Safety is being reorganized in order to further strengthen its ability to develop active safety and automation technologies with the creation of 4 new teams with dedicated purpose and skills. The "Functional Safety, Simulation & Verification" group is one of them.

Position Summary
The Manager of the Functional Safety, Simulation & Verification team reports to the Director of the Vehicle Technology and Safety department (VTS), Philippe Ravoux, in Advanced Technology and Research, TPP/GTT.
The manager will have the task to create a new team that will start with 2 to 3 skilled employees and will rapidly grow up to 7 people by the beginning of 2017.

Mission
• Coach, develop competences and manage resources of the team.
• Organize, plan and manage the project portfolio of the area. Build the budget and steer activities accordingly.
• Propose methods and tool projects according to needs
• Execute agreed projects, deliver and transfer knowledge with the required methods, tools and system maturity
• Develop governmental and university cooperation
• Develop and maintain a continuous improvement plan

For the whole Vehicle Technology and Safety department
• Guide and support the whole Vehicle Technology and Safety department in its task to develop technologies according to the ISO26262 functional safety standard (from very low level of technology maturity to agreed expectations in projects: TRL4 / TRL6 or higher)
• Guide and support the whole department in its task to design based on data from the field.
• Data logging strategy for verification & validation from research, simulation, tests, trials...
• Data analysis to feed design (driver state, human machine interaction, decision algorithms...), to verify and validate end to end functionalities

For the development of active safety and automation technologies
• Take the lead for the creation of a new simulation Vision for the development new technologies, select and develop needed simulation tools & chain, maintain them and make developers use these tools to design / verify / validate technologies.
• Example of tools:
• Driving simulators
• VR tools to visualize, model, develop, verify and validate active safety and automation technologies and features
• Guide and support the whole department in its task to create and structure technology verification and validations plan in which early simulation is the key for the success.
• Support technology development projects in the preparation of their verification plans from very early phases
• From driver behavior, human machine interaction to road conditions / environment according to verification & validation needs
• From upstream iteration by simulation down to real physical tests on roads with customers

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
• Supported by HR manage the global team according to local laws and according to Volvo Group Values
• Active member of the management team in the VTS management team.
• Responsible for the 2-way communication to and from the team
• Work according to the Group Truck Technology processes
• Plan: Plan development
• Do: Execute projects, deliver and transfer to business according to plan
• Check: evaluate gaps and opportunities to react
• Act: Implement counter measures as and when needed.
• Secure Intellectual Property according to strategy.
• Ensure that the function is properly resourced in all respects to achieve the planned objectives
• Fulfill financial and operational KPI's for function

Education and Preferred Experience and Knowledge
• Validated people / team management experience in research / technology development
• Formal experience in leadership and people development. Teamwork is the basis of success.
• Visionary leader able to meet its challenging objectives.
• Hold a Master of Science University degree
• Deep knowledge within own team technology area
• Extensive external and internal network connected to Volvo Group Challenge
• Demonstrating a high level of competence in each of the Volvo leadership competences
• Able to demonstrate successful international business experience within a global network
• Good understanding of the commercial vehicle industry and business analysis
• Show a real talent for global and cultural integration
• Proficiency in the English Language is required.
