At Global Inbound Optimization you are part of a global supply team that makes sure that the cars we build meet the highest expectations from our customers. To make this happen, we secure that all incoming transportation is designed, established, optimised and executed, cost efficiently and with exact precision, to the entire Volvo Cars organisation. You will be a part of a team of Engineers in Transportation Tactical Planning function located in Gothenburg and you will have responsibility towards one of our destination points in Europe, factory or cross dock, but you will also work close and have responsibility of carriers. The Transportation Network includes all modes of transportation from direct material suppliers in Europe and all over the world to production facilities in Europe. This position will act as the interface between Inbound Logistics Team and many other functions inside the company for Transportation Network Planning and Optimization works.
What you will do
At Volvo Cars, the Transport Planning and follow up team are planning, optimizing and implementing transport solution. We work with volume forecast and capacity to set the correct prerequisite for our supply chain when it comes to incoming transports to our factories and cross docks. We are also doing tactical planning for the return flows of packaging to suppliers. Our purpose is to identify and drive improvements and development of cost, service, and lead-time on a tactical (short -mid-term) level. As a team member within this team you will improve, develop and implement the inbound transportation network as well as integrate new material part suppliers and carriers to create a reliable and efficient logistics network. This function adapts the chosen transport mode to line speed changes. Our function is handling the material supplier and carriers' phase in and out and should give the logistic operational functions right prerequisite to run.
We play an important role and has a critical impact to meet Volvo Cars' budget for IBL costs. Our function is included in tendering and RFQs and the annual transportation budget plan. Therefore, we make sure that deviation related to transport planning and cost are followed up, and activities set to improve performance. Continuous improvements are a part of our daily business.
We drive X-functional investigations and analysis within SCM and with our different stakeholders on a tactical level. We are a key member to various project and analyses and we work close to our Inbound operational team, but also with procurement, factories, carriers, cross docks and consolidations centers.
This position reports to the Senior Manager Global Inbound Optimization and you will have a Senior Logistics Engineer to support you in the daily operations.
You and your skills
We think you have a B.Sc. degree within Supply chain/Logistics or equivalent relevant working experience and fluency in English both spoken and written. If you have an operational background and/or experience in logistic processes, transportations or forwarding business, that knowledge is highly beneficial.
To succeed in this role, you have strong knowledge and experience in MS Excel and understand operational planning and resource allocation. You have strong communication skills as this role interacts with a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally. You enjoy working in collaboration with different partners internally and outside the company. A global environment gives you additional drive and energizes you!
You have proven ability to be accurate and detail oriented because this will be needed in your daily tasks. As a person your strengths are knowing when to prioritize and at the same time work analytically and have a problem solving manner. To conclude, you are team-oriented individual that has a holistic approach and you enjoy working with tasks where you use your communicative skills. You work with a positive and innovative mind-set that everything is possible.
