The Administration Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Legal Officer position.

Description of directorate/division
The Legal Division manages and develops the provision of legal services to ESS to enable it to meet its objectives and act within the law. The provision of quality legal advice ensures the legality of ESS's decisions and is of vital importance in preventing or reducing the risk of liability and subsequent litigation.  As a Legal Officer you will be part of the Legal team and report to the Head of Legal. You will enjoy a challenging workload and take an active part in the development of the legal division within the ESS.

Description of main responsibilities
You will advise and support all the organisation's departments in a variety of legal issues. The position provides for a significant cross-functional interaction with executives and directors within the organisation as well as with the scientific and technical departments. 

The position includes:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents, such as collaboration agreements, MoUs, license agreements, in-kind agreements, purchase of services and supply agreements, consultancy agreements and general commercial work.
• Identifying gaps and providing legal support on a range of matters, including intellectual property.
• Providing advice on corporate governance, legal strategy and related matters.
• Involvement in drafting of new policies for the organisation in various areas.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Qualifications

• 3-8 years of practical legal experience (e.g. law firm with client contact and/or prior in-house experience);
• Strong academic background and demonstrated record of accomplishment and achievements;
• At least basic knowledge of intellectual property law;
• Superior contract drafting, reviewing and negotiation skills in English;
• Knowledge of legal compliance involving general business law;
• Experience and knowledge in one of the following areas is considered a plus: Property law, data protection, employment, taxation, R&D collaboration with universities and/or research facilities;
• Experience of working in an international environment is important;
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
