BAT SWEDEN IS LOOKING FOR A LEGAL COUNSEL (MATERNITY COVER)
ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

As Legal Counsel at BAT you will have an important role supporting some of the markets in forefront when it comes to delivering the BAT strategy of building A Better Tomorrow by reducing the health impact of our business. You will be an integral part of the Swedish & Norwegian Legal team consisting of a Senior Legal Counsel, a Legal Counsel, a Student Assistant, and yourself. Together, you and the Legal team will be responsible for the provision of high quality, commercially focused legal advice to enable the business to meet its commercial and strategic objectives. The legal team's work ranges all the way from commercial contracts, marketing and activation strategies and execution across multiple touchpoints (including e-commerce, digital marketing, and retail) to regulatory counselling, product development and manufacturing.
Since Sweden is one of the pioneering markets when it comes to next generation & risk-reduced products, a lot of product development and trials are based here. This means numerous of new regulatory legal aspects for the Legal Team to take into consideration and advise on to different stakeholders.
The successful candidate will act as a dedicated point of contact for all legal matters supporting the entire business and Legal Team across a range of legal, regulatory, and reputational issues.
BAT Nordics have commercial offices in Copenhagen, Oslo, Malmö, and Stockholm, with its headquarters in Copenhagen, as well as production in Malmö. The position will ideally be based in our office in Hyllie, Malmö but may also be located in Stockholm.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
Provide all aspects of legal support, general commercial and regulatory advice relevant to the manufacturing, labelling, marketing, sale and distribution of BAT's products.
Identify and mitigate legal risk in proposed and operational marketing activities, including potential intellectual property, data protection, consumer protection, competition, and compliance risks.
Interpret the current and proposed legal environment and advise the business on compliance in reaching its objectives and to ensure the business adheres to the legal requirements and BAT's internal policies.
Contribute to cross functional projects and initiatives to assess, monitor, and anticipate potential and actual risks to the business, working closely with External Affairs.
Develop and organize appropriate training to the business.
Instruct and manage external counsel when needed, reviewing output, and controlling and approving spend as required.
Contribute to drive the legal compliance agenda (Anti-Bribery & Corruption, GDPR, Standards of Business Conduct, Competition Law etc).
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
BAT is looking for a legal professional with approximately 3 to 4 years of experience working either in-house or in a private practice with a proven track record of advising on complex legal matters. Preferably, you are experienced working with marketing and advertising regulations across digital, social media, e-commerce, and retail. You have solid experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and are very familiar working with different stakeholders.
In order to be successful, we believe that you are a person with a strong ability to build solid relationships and to be influential with different stakeholders in your surroundings. You thrive to work team oriented to accomplish common targets with your legal team, but you don't have any problems operating independently and proactively taking the initiative when needed. BAT is a large organization going through exciting changes. Therefore, we believe that you enjoy working in a dynamic environment where unexpected and varied demands can arise on short notice.
Swedish qualified lawyer with a minimum of +3 years' post qualification experience.
Ability to draft and negotiate commercial contracts.
Experience of marketing and advertising regulations.
Fluent in English and Swedish, spoken and written.
Highly collaborative and a team player.
Strong personal credibility with ability to build trusted relationships.
Hands-on, adaptable, and flexible attitude.
Solution oriented.
BENEFICIAL
Experience from working in the FMCG industry within nicotine, food, or equal highly regulated environments.
Experience of advising on marketing law, product compliance and environmental law.
