Description of directorate/division

As Lead Integrator Engineer for Safety Critical Systems , you will be part of ESS's Machine Directorate, responsible to deliver the accelerator, the target station and the integrated control systems. You will join the Integrated Control Systems (ICS) division, responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility including the accelerator, target station, neutron scattering instruments and conventional facilities. The Integrated Control Systems monitor and control most of the equipment at ESS. A wide range of sensing, control and automation technology from highly customized electronics specific for ESS applications to standardized PLCs for automation is being covered. The hardware scope involves a mixture from entirely in-house hardware development, through community-style development on standardized open-source code bases to adaption and configuration of off-the shelf commercial systems.

In particular you will join the Protection and Safety Systems Group whose mandate is the design, realization, operation and consolidation of the ESS Machine Protection and Personnel Safety Systems.



Main Responsibilities



• Lead and coordinate the integration of personnel safety systems into the ESS accelerator, target station, neutron instruments and test stands.
• Lead and coordinate the development, verification and documentation of electrical diagrams and ensure compliance with the associated safety integrity levels and reaction times for the different systems.
• Actively coordinate and collect the requirements and safety procedures from other stakeholders necessary to develop personnel safety systems.
• Actively participate in analysis of personnel safety systems.
• Perform engineering design and related duties; including, power system studies, equipment specifications and selection, and grounding design. Ensure that designs comply with relevant codes, standards, regulations and procedures and ensure the designs are in line with the ESS availability and reliability goals.
• Actively assist in planning, preparation and review of relevant installation contracts and activities.
• Actively assist and coordinate the installation and related tests of personnel safety systems (factory, integration and site acceptance testing) by supervising the performance of contractors, and technicians.
• Be responsible to maintain the functionality of personnel safety systems during the commissioning and operations phase from an electrical point of view.





Required Qualifications

• Educational

• Master/Bachelor in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

• Work Experience

• Minimum 5 year of experience in working with complex systems and working within a multicultural environment.
• Proven experience in designing safety-critical interlock systems.
• Very good knowledge of EL-VIS, AutoCAD and E-Plan tools
• Good knowledge of Siemens PLC hardware; including its operation and installation.
• Good knowledge in SCADA systems.
• Experience in dealing with suppliers and manufacturers of electrical components worldwide.
• Extensive experience in the provision of concept and detailed design of electrical installations.
• Knowledge of cabling and technology connectors, EMI and grounding for large facilities.
• Ability to teach, mentor, communicate to the point, and defend technical concepts and solutions.

• Familiarity with the International Functional Safety Standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.



Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the field of particle accelerator personnel safety systems
• Understanding of operation of accelerators or neutron sources would be an advantage

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with 6 months probationary period.Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
