Design is a crucial part of creating a brand - a product identity for the customer to relate to. The design of our cars is strongly influenced by our Scandinavian origins, with elegance, function and purity of line as strong design elements. Consumers are becoming more and more brand conscious. When you buy a product, it is not simply about fulfilling a practical need such as transporting yourself from one point to another. Instead, the product is a statement of you as a person, of your values and of your lifestyle.
Product Design is a unit of around 150 employees divided in one creative and one operational area working close together to support Designs mission to Create the most exciting cars for Modern Family Mindset. We are located in Gothenburg and Barcelona, Spain.
Background
It is common practice in the Automotive design world to grant students an Internship or Industrial Practice during the 12 to 18 months before their graduation, in this manner Volvo Car Group / Corporation contributes and participates to the education of our future designers at the same time it is an opportunity for us at Volvo Design to test and search for future new talent before committing to full employment from our side.
Every six months Volvo design invites officially various Design Institutes in Asia Europe and the Americas for their advanced design students to submit their applications letter and portfolio containing samples of their work in order to go through a process of elimination and selection, the process to select those students takes approximately three months or less.
Scope
We need to make decisions fast as the competing brands in the auto industry are also doing the same "searching for new talent" so it is very important for us to select and offer these places to those designers that show great creative talent, skill, and spirit through their work and that appear to be suitable to work with the Volvo values or interests, naturally this last thing we cannot be certain but we do our best.
Profile
We are looking for a student within the Design area for an internship with a duration of 5 to 6 months. The education level needs to be from 4th year BA to last year BA or 1st year MA all required to be focused on Automotive Design.
The applicants need to demonstrate through their work to possess great level of:
Imagination and Creativity;
The ability to show their ideas with well executed Sketches and doodles
and some forms of rendering.
The ability to tell a story and excite their audience with their work.
Show understanding about the influence of brands and their work.
Clear understanding of 3D development.
Demonstrate traditional use and sketch abilities on paper with pen,
pencil, crayon, marker..other.
IT Tools knowledge: (not all of them are required to be mastered) some definitely.
Alias Sketch Pro, Key Shot, Illustrator, In Design, some knowledge of
Alias.

Duration
The internship is thought to last for 5 to 6 months, starting in the mid- October 2013, and we want you to spend 30 ECTS on the internship.
