The research institute Swerim provides applied research within mining engineering, process metallurgy and materials and manufacturing engineering, mainly for the mining, steel and metals industry. Swerim has 190 co-workers in two locations in Sweden - Luleå and Stockholm.

In this position, the job assignments will be carried out together with Uppsala University.

Your profile: We are seeking a person that holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering, preferably within Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics. A few years of work experience is desirable but not essential. Skills within computational tools is desirable. You are proficient in both Swedish and English, and able to express yourself in speech and in writing.

Job assignments: You will conduct research, in the field of additive manufacturing of magnesium alloys, for implants. The job requires experimental work and computational investigations, both at Swerim in Kista and at Ångströmslaboratoriet in Uppsala. The position is the result an granted project from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The granted project will result in a PhD degree being awarded to the applicant, within 4-5 years. More specifically, the project should produce a magnesium alloy that decomposes at a moderate rate in the body, and also is printable in an Additive Manufacturing process. A potential user of the result is the company OssDsign AB that manufactures bioactive composites for bone replacement. Höganäs AB also participates in the project.
The applicant will be assigned other tasks as well, most likely shorter research projects in close collaboration with industry. Note that the offered position is a regular employment, and as such is not limited to 4-5 years.
A scientific basis is used for reporting of all research work. As such, it is important to gain an insight into ongoing research nationally and internationally. It means, among other things, that the applicant will participate in scientific conferences.
