Do you want to have an impact on our environment? - Scania is now looking for a PhD Student for advanced modelling of state of the art exhaust treatment systems.

For Scania, the exhaust treatment system is an essential building block in a sustainable powertrain for heavy duty vehicles of the future. By developing robust exhaust treatment systems, adaptable to a broad variety of renewable fuels, Scania will be in the forefront of the development of transport solutions with minimal climate impact.

Catalysts are the essential parts in exhaust treatment systems and advanced modelling is an important tool in developing optimized systems. The scope of this project is to develop efficient models and modelling tools able to handle complex properties.

In cooperation with the Competence Center for Catalysis (KCK) at Chalmers University of Technology (CTH), Scania is looking for an industrial PhD student who will develop advanced models for catalyst behavior that may be used for e.g. optimal control of exhaust treatment systems.

Project description

The project contains experimental testing to investigate and define fundamental phenomena, formulating models, planning and performing experiments for estimation of model parameters as well as conclusive validation of the model.

Several master thesis work will be connected to the project, and the project is aimed to start Q42018 and will lead to a PhD degree.

You will be employed by Scania and your position will be at the department for Emission Solutions Development at Scania R&D where the major part of the studies/experiments will be performed. The final result should be feasible to implement in Scania control systems. Hence the project is in close cooperation with Scania's department for powertrain control system development.

The project is connected to and financed by Scania through KCK at CTH. It will be possible to attend courses at CTH and KTH.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has strong analytical and problem-solving skills. As a PhD student you are expected to work independently and challenge yourself and others as well as pushing the research frontier forward.

MSc degree in engineering is required. Academic background or at least strong interest in advanced modelling techniques and applied mathematics is necessary. Previous experience from work with emission control and catalysts is a plus.

You should be an experienced user of Matlab.

Good communication and writing skills in English are required as you are expected to publish results in journals and present at international conferences.
