Description of Position:
International School of Karlskrona is an authorized IB World school located in Karlskrona, Sweden. The school caters to international families and offers both the PYP (Primary Years Program) and MYP (Middle Years Program) as well as Fritids (after and before school care). The language of instruction is English and all classes, except Swedish, are taught in English. We pride ourselves to have a diverse set of students and teachers. Academic Year 2023-2024 will be our fifth year of operation. Classes are steadily growing.
Due to increased enrollment, we are now seeking a professional and passionate IB, PYP and MYP Performing Arts Teacher who wishes to be a key component of the continued development and growth of our school. The successful candidate is a licensed educator in his/her home country. In the role of a Performing Arts Teacher, you will be responsible for providing high quality, transdisciplinary education, teaching Performing Arts including Music, Dance, and Drama.
The applicant should have a desire to work within an IB environment and have a thorough understanding of constructivist methods including inquiry-based pedagogy, how to teach for conceptual understanding, as well as how to develop essential skills (ATL skills) for learning and beyond. Experience in inclusion and differentiated instruction in a multi-cultural setting is desirable. A successful candidate has a history of ensuring a learning environment in which the students have the agency to drive their own their learning. Collaboration is key in our environment, thus, the ideal candidate must want and like to work in a team.
Additional duties include:
* Weekly collaborative meetings with program coordinator/s
* Creating/Utilizing varied forms of formative and summative assessments to inform teaching and learning practices and to develop assessment capable learners
* Develop and maintain a positive learning environment
* Ensure the learning environment (consisting of space, time, materials, and people) is planned, organized, and effectively managed to develop appropriate and positive behavior patterns
* A commitment to empower each learner to fulfill his or her maximum potential by developing skills, understandings, and academic abilities
* Being professional in your conduct towards students, colleagues, parents and other stakeholders
* A commitment to instill a love for learning in each learner
* A commitment to professional development and school development
* Teaches with a trans- or interdisciplinary approach, authentically connecting teaching and learning engagements across subject disciplines and to "real life"
* Demonstrates a constructivist approach to pedagogy, including inquiry-based teaching and learning as well as teaching for conceptual understanding
* Participates in mandatory IB training
Qualifications
* IB PYP and/or MYP experience is ideal. However, life-long learners role-modeling a willingness to continuously learn and develop is more essential
* Must have a teaching degree and/or teaching license that is valid in the country where it was achieved. The preferred candidate has a music, dance, drama, or performing arts teacher qualifications
* Is open-minded and proactive team player embracing change and development in a new and growing IB school
* Is an international-minded lifelong learner
* Possesses excellent and fluent, verbal and written, English communication skills
* Embraces the idea of including the whole school community consisting of parents, students and all staff to ensure a holistic educational experience
* Demonstrates a desire to develop global citizenship in all learners
* Demonstrates a desire to develop agentic students able to drive their own, purposeful, learning which leads to meaningful action
* In the interest of long visa and work permit processing times, is either an EU citizen or already fulfills legal requirements to work and live in Sweden (native Swede or non-native with a current work permit). This requirement is out of the school's control and is a result of the Swedish migration services processing times.
* Role-models and embodies all IB, Learner Profile traits, such as being Caring, Open-minded, an Inquirer, Reflective, Principled, a Communicator, and more.
