Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

Scania is setting up a new production site in Rugao, China. One important unit is the material laboratory. We now need to employ a group manager. The group will consist of two areas, namely metal and a chemical team (roughly 8-9 colleagues altogether). The metal team is set up to work with sample preparation, mechanical testing, alloy composition detection, and metallographic investigations. The chemical team will work with the chemical analysis of fuel and oil. In addition, there will be paint, inorganic coating, and corrosion testing. A polymer and elastomer laboratory is also included. At a later stage battery degradation investigation is expected to be added in.

The material laboratory is mainly supporting R&D when implementing new products, the production unit with quality issues, purchasing with quality concerns of their suppliers, and with field quality issues related to materials.

We are looking for you, who will be trained partly in Södertälje (Sweden) and partly in Sao Paolo (Brazil), for an extended period of time before joining the team in Rugao, China. In Södertälje we do development work and in Sao Paolo, we have a similar material laboratory as under construction in Rugao, China. We have a close collaboration and you will assist with the build-up of the laboratory in Rugao, which provides a great opportunity to influence from the start.

Your duties
Responsible for Scania's material laboratory in Rugao, China, in terms of daily activities as well as long-term planning in accordance with local demands.
Have responsibility for equipment and testing methodologies as well as the working environment.
Lead the group and make sure that we have the right competence necessary for the site. That includes employing and developing our colleagues.
Responsible for the group's improvement work and customer relationship
Manage contacts and backup from external laboratories in order to have a complete offer of support to the site in Rugao.

Your profile
To succeed in this position personal drive is a necessity, as well as good cooperation skills and interest in developing employees.
Your contact areas will be many and therefore you need good communication skills.
You like challenges and see them as an opportunity to influence a new market.
You are a graduate engineer preferably in materials or equivalent, have management experience and good knowledge of English. Mandarin (Chinese) is meritorious.

Your location
The position is full-time and for the initial part, you will be located in Sweden and Brasil for training and then on-site in the Rugao/Nantong region (close to Shanghai) for 2-3 years.
