Cockpit & Surface Materials consists of 7 teams with 15 to 25 employees, each focused on delivering world class interiors for our future cars. We are responsible for all product documents defining the interior of the car. We develop the Instrument panel, Tunnel console, Cockpit integration & Cross car beam and Surface material with our own engineers. We are responsible for all phases of the development, i.e. annual work, advanced engineering, concept development, industrialization, quality and cost reduction. We work in an X-functional work process with Purchasing, Design, Manufacturing, Product planning and of course the other development units within R&D.

At Surface Material, we develop all surface material in our cars. Together with Design, the developing teams and our suppliers, we are responsible to make sure that our materials are producible and fulfils all necessary requirements and testing. We work with all visible materials in our cars such as textile, leather, plastic grain, carpets and deco.
Working at Surface Material will mean working closely with our part and material suppliers as well as manufacturing and assembly sites. Close cooperation will also be with our Product Design department, Product Planning and the development teams and car programs.
We are now looking for a colleague on the position Group Design Leader, who will act as key user in one of our future projects. You will be responsible for the timing and delivery of all our surface material in certain project. In closely cooperation with our Technical Responsible for each material you will report the progress of the development to the Project Team. You will be, together with other teams within our Volvo Cars organization, developing our future materials and have the opportunity to make an impact on inner visual outcome of our future premium cars.
Main responsibilities
* Responsible for time, cost and techniques within the project
* Close cooperation with a colleagues who are responsible for technical qualifications for each material and taking care of follow ups with reports to project team
* Interaction with external and internal suppliers, making time plans for testing and deliveries
* Internal collaboration with product design, purchasing and other Product system structure areas
Required qualifications
* Textile, Technical or Chemical university degree or equivalent with relevant material knowledge
* Leadership and project management skills
* Good colour sight/vision
* Product development knowledge
* Previous work experience within relevant area or acting on similar positions is an advantage
* Customer focused approach
* Fluency in English, spoken and written
* Driver's license "B"
Personal qualities
You will excel on this position if you have the ability to work with confidence and independently, as well as being good at working with different cross-functional teams. You need to possess excellent communication and cooperation skills, hence to daily work with suppliers within and outside of company and networking demand while acting on this role.
We are looking for someone, who is strongly customer oriented and business focused, with a sense of balancing these two aspects according to expectations. Moreover, you need to be structured, organized and planned, in order to be able to lead and guide the project in direction where meeting demands and targets.
