Global Process Engineer

Core Manufacturing Engineering Assembly Shop is one of the departments within Volvo Cars Manufacturing Engineering working towards final assembly plants worldwide. We have global responsibility for strategic work and for early concept phase in the car programs. Our objective is to create prerequisites for quality assured, flexible and lean production systems over time. We are approximately 25 engineers divided into two groups. We are now looking for a Global Process Engineer to join our team.

As Global Process Engineer you will lead and coordinate activities within your area of responsibility towards final assembly shops on three continents. You will work within annual strategy process, but also within car programs until FDJ (Final Data Judgement). The purpose of the role is to create manufacturing prerequisites in view of lean production concept and production process commonality. You will lead development of plant vision layout, Bill of Process and other manufacturing strategies for production of next generation vehicles. It is important both to drive efficiency work of today, and to understand implications of future products and production processes. You will work independently as well as cross-functionally, in close corporation with Area Engineers and Industrial Engineers in respective final assembly plant.

Main responsibilities

* Responsible for development of production process strategies, requirements and design guidelines in view of lean production concept and commonality
* Participation in strategic alignment process, making sure that decisions and actions taken are known, understood and agreed within concerned units in VCM
* Lead strategic development of plant layout for assembly shop
* Lead global process setup concerning generic sequence, Bill of Process (BOP), including governance of deviations and annual evaluation.
* Investigate consequences due to industrial structure changes, future car programs and platform issues.
* Financial studies such as pre-studies and investment calculation
* Participate and/or lead required networks and councils

Required qualifications

* B.Sc. degree in engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial is preferred - or equivalent
* 5 - 7 years' experience as Manufacturing Engineer or Industrial Engineer
* Experience from semi-automatic production processes with tooling and equipment involvement
* Knowledge about lean production concept
* Good overall computer skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Fluent in English, verbal and written
* Experience as Tooling and Equipment Engineer, or MP&L Engineer, is meritorious
* Experience from virtual work in 3D tools (e.g. Catia, Teamcenter, ProEngineer, Solid Works), or process- or flow simulation is meritorious
