hela Sverige The Protection and Safety Systems Group in the Integrated Controls Systems (ICS) Division is looking for up to three entry-level engineers.
At ESS we are building a highly powerful and expensive linear particle accelerator in order to produce neutrons via the spallation process (smashing protons against Tungsten). Such investment needs protection in case of abnormal operation and a set of equipment is being designed and programmed within the scope of Machine Protection using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
The systems you will work on are the following (you can select from one of the below):
• Interceptive devices for beam instrumentation interlocks
• Vacuum gate valves interlocks
• Magnets powering interlocks
• Target interlocks
If you feel a passion for:
• PLC programming: Siemens STEP 7 (STL, SCL, LAD, GRAPH, WinCC)
• Real-Time Industrial fieldbus networks: PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Industrial Ethernet
• SCADA systems: WinCC suite, EPICS
• Safety engineering and process modelling: HAZOP, Safety cases, FMEA, Fault trees, STAMP, CAST...
• CAD/CAE Software for Electrical circuits: E-Plan, AutoCAD
• Expert systems and artificial intelligence engineering
• Controls engineering theory and applications
• International and multicultural atmosphere
• Training and trips to participate in international conferences, workshops and visits to the most prestigious laboratories in the world are also possible

TIMELINE
The summer positions will have a duration between 6 to 8 weeks (it can be adjusted according to your wishes). It can start at any time, beginning of June 2017 until middle of August 2017.
