The position is open to those with expertise or interest in macro-economics, market microstructure, and financial markets.
The Research Analyst will assist in analyzing a wide range of subjects relating to the financial markets, including macroeconomics; market microstructure; regulation; valuation; competition; IPOs; fund flows; and trading. The position requires strong analytical and presentation skills. The successful applicant will learn and support multiple Nasdaq businesses, helping senior executives better execute on business initiatives. Analysts become experts in quantitative analysis, data science, financial products, market microstructure, financial regulation and exchange competition.
Traditionally, ESR works extensively with data analytics programming languages such as R, Python and SQL however for this role we are specifically looking for someone who has experience working with BI / data visualization tools and creating data marts or have a keen interest to learn. ESR analysts provide Nasdaq's rapid response to the most pressing issues facing the company and the financial industry. ESR analysts have frequent contact with all levels of management, customers, and regulators, providing excellent opportunities for advancement.
Education, Professional accomplishments, and Certifications
* A finance/business and/or engineering academic degree
* Probably less than 3 years of relevant working experience
* Background working in a trading environment for cash equities, equity derivatives, fixed income or commodities is meriting
* Experience working with decision support or with business intelligence tools is meriting
* Strong knowledge of econometric and/or statistical methods is meriting
* Experience of handling large quantities of data in R, Python, SQL, DAX, Tableau, Qlik or Business Objects is meriting
Skills, Requirements and Competencies
You should also have a passion for the securities market in general, which you demonstrate by following macroeconomic developments, corporate events and you are not afraid to on a project basis immerse yourself in regulations governing the markets. You should also demonstrate a curiosity for statistical methods and data science in general which you demonstrate by an eager to try new tools and suggest potential innovative solutions. We look favorably on CFA Level II candidate or above applicants.

We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills with the ambition to become an expert in several exciting areas of financial markets and our short deadlines place high demands on service mindedness and broad expertise.
The challenges are often very specific, but you should also be able to think in new ways and be curious and interested in finding the unexpected in major trends and data sets. Furthermore, you are positive, enthusiastic and pragmatic and can quickly put a question to a concrete result for demanding customers.
