The Swedish School of Sport and health Sciences, GIH, is the world's oldest sports university. GIH is located at Stockholm Stadium and is Sweden's foremost knowledge center for sports, physical activity and health. Here, physical education teachers, sports coaches, health educators, sports managers, sports scientists and researchers are trained. GIH conducts sports science research, often in close collaboration with other institutions and stakeholders in society, at both national and international level. GIH currently has 140 employees and about 1,000 students.

The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, GIH, announces a position as a doctoral student in the subject of Sport Sciences within the area: Physical activity and health



Project description:
The overall purpose of the HPI-group at GIH is to generate knowledge regarding physical activity, performance and other lifestyle habits in the Swedish working population based on a large, existing database of Health Profile Assessments. The PhD project will be a part of this group's work. Read more about the HPI group here.

The PhD project aims to study the importance of sitting at work, the physical work situation and cardiorespiratory fitness for cardiovascular disease, mental health, and longevity over a 30-year period, and how this varies between sex, age, and occupations.

In the project, the doctoral student will manage and analyze the data in the existing database in order to answer the research questions set for the overall purpose of the project. The doctoral student will also work with, for the research process, central administrative tasks such as writing applications for ethical approval and linking the database to different national registers. With the support and guidance of the supervisors, the doctoral student will write, process, submit and publish the scientific articles within the doctoral student project. A statistician to consult will be available.



Entry requirements for admission to the doctoral programme
The entry requirements for admission to the doctoral programme in Sport sciences are:

• That the applicant has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad,
• That the applicant is considered in other respects to have the ability required to benefit from the doctoral programme.

Verification of proficiency in English corresponding to the level English 6 within the Swedish education system.

The general entry requirements shall be fulfilled at the specified time of admission to the doctoral programme, June 12, 2019.

Selection
In selecting between applicants who meet the requirements, their ability to benefit from the doctoral programme shall be taken into account. An important basis of assessment is the specialization of the credits within the second-cycle programme and the quality of the advanced level thesis. The assessment is based on predetermined established criteria. For this doctoral position, the following are also taken into account:

• experience of previous work of managing and processing epidemiological data.



Duration/Workingtime
Time limited position for four years fulltime (corresponding to 100% study activity) according to the Higher Education Ordinance chap. 5 1-7 § with starting date no later than September 2, 2019.
