SLU is one of the world's highest ranked universities in several subject areas and is ranked #1 in forestry (CWUR). At our centre we carry out research, teaching and dissemination of scientific findings with direct application to the sustainable management of forests. We teach bachelor, Masters and PhD level courses addressing all of these subject areas.

Models for establishment of Scots pine and Norway spruce regenerations in Sweden
Description:
The person we are looking for will develop models for the establishment and growth of naturally regenerated, direct seeded and planted Norway spruce and Scots pine seedlings. Heureka is an internationally recognised system for planning and decision support and is the most used tool in Sweden for simulating development of Swedish forests. Heureka is often used to study long-term effects of different management treatments, both in operational forestry and in research. However, at present it is not possible to study the effects of different regeneration treatments in Heureka. The objective of the PhD-project is to develop functionality in Heureka that makes it possible to, in a realistic way, simulate the effects of different regeneration treatments on seedling development up to a mean height of about 2 m.
