The School of Engineering, JTH, is one of four schools that are parts of Jönköping University. It is our vision to be leaders in Europe in developing and spreading new technology and knowledge that reinforce the international competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Contact with industry is an important part of our education in order to ensure that the education is anchored in reality, and to acquire practical experience.

Research and third-cycle education are targeted at industrial product realisation in cooperation, especially applications for small and medium-sized enterprises. Research takes place in collaboration with companies, research institutes and other university colleges of technology, in common projects.

The position is placed at the Department of Materials and Manufacturing, consisting about 40 faculty members, researchers and PhD students with background in materials science, mechanics, chemistry and physics. The research at the Department is focused on two main areas: metal casting, and surface technology; basically to understand the relationship between manufacturing process, microstructure and final properties, from mechanism to industrial application.

Job description
We are seeking one Doctoral student for a Swedish Regional and Jönköping University funded research project: HINT.
The research project aims for offering a methodology towards optimization of various factors involved in the high pressure die casting (HPDC) process, in order to obtain high quality Al castings. The research will cover the relationships between melt treatment procedures, alloying elements, component design and the manufacturing process on the defect formation and mechanical properties of Al castings. The process optimization will be investigated using simulation and modeling.

The doctoral studies consist of research comprising at least 80 percent of the work load, while up to 20 percent may be devoted to teaching and/or performing other institutional duties.

The candidate will be enrolled in the educational programme of the research school for Industrial Product Realization. The project is conducted in close collaboration with Swedish industries with possible collaboration with other international research groups.
