The arena
The aim of this role is to ensure that AstraZeneca project teams are provided with analytically validated biomarkers and tests that add value to drug development, including those that are discovered through research collaborations at the Karolinska Institutet (KI).
The role
The Director of Translational Science Centre (TSC) Laboratories is accountable for building internal expertise and laboratory capability at the TSC to deliver validated biomarker tests and tools. The role holder will achieve this by providing access to laboratory platforms within the TSC (including positron emission tomography [PET] imaging, electroencephalography [EEG] and biochemical biomarkers) that can be used in AZ preclinical and clinical drug projects and by continually evaluating emerging biomarker approaches identified through KI research collaborations.
The role requires a high level of scientific and technical knowledge to generate and implement strategy for biomarker analysis. Working closely with internal biomarker experts throughout AstraZeneca, the role holder uses highly developed communication skills, and represents the PHB function both internally and externally.
The Director of TSC Laboratories works collaboratively with senior leaders in the Personalised Healthcare & Biomarkers function to deliver this capability to drug project teams. As a member of the PHB Labs Leadership Team, the role holder is accountable for ensuring that the roles and responsibilities of the TSC Labs are delivered demonstrating behaviours and values aligned to AstraZeneca Code of Conduct and supporting policies, standards and procedures; including accountability for compliant management of Budget, Safety, Health and Environment.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership for the TSC Laboratories group. Communicate a clear and inspirational strategic vision based on a long-term view of the group. Attract, recruit, and retain top talent and technical expertise. Lead performance management and personal development of group members through coaching, mentoring, and motivating.
Monitor and ensure compliance with all AstraZeneca Policies and Standards and immediately address instances of non-compliance. Deliver ethical and compliant management of Budget, Safety, Health and Environment within the group and on behalf of the function as required.
Drive strategy and processes for analytical validation and delivery of validated biomarkers and tests for use in internal investment decision making, clinical trials, regulatory submission and commercialisation according to international regulatory standards......
