ESS is now looking for a Detector Electronics Expert for the NSS Project Division, organised within the Technical Directorate. The NSS Project Division provides the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. Specifically, Detector Group is working with partners worldwide to provide novel neutron detectors, meeting challenging requirements with diverse technologies, many adopted from other disciplines.

Job description
The successful candidate will be an experienced Detector Electronics Expert participating in the outsourcing, building and integration of the electronics for the neutron detectors for instruments to be deployed at the ESS. The candidate will offer expertise to other Detector Electronics Engineers, the detector build team, and will work closely with the Detector Scientists , Mechanical Engineers and Technicians The main working space is the detector facility (Utgård, Lund), and there will be specific jobs which will need to be done at the mechanical workshop (EMBLA, Lund) or at our Source Facility (SF, at Lund University). Utgård is a workshop space equipped to the highest standards to be utilized for building the ultimate neutron detector technologies. You will also be required to visit other collaborating partners, neutron centers, as necessary. Most of the work will comprise ensuring that the standardised electronics data acquisition is built and commissioned for the neutron detectors for ESS instruments. In addition, the provision, integration and adaptation of the front end electronics will be a core part of the role.

Qualifications
We are looking for a self-motivated person, with practical experience in technical workshops and, ideally, building detector demonstrators or similar devices. In particular, we are seeking knowledge, skills and competence on the following:

• Masters or higher in electronics or electronic engineering or physics.
• Candidates should be detector electronics experts with several years of relevant work experience.
• Prior experience with detector front-end electronics and data acquisition for detectors is required, in particular a demonstrated ability in designing, prototyping, commissioning and/or operating such equipment.
• Understanding of grounding and experience with suppressing sources of electronic noise. For example experience of noise optimization of frontend amplifiers, shielding and filters
• Excellent programming and computing skills are a necessity.
• Experience of testing and qualifying ASIC at beam facilities would be an advantage.
• As this position will involve working closely with collaborating institutes, a willingness to travel and to be able to work effectively in a team are essential.
• Experience of working in an international research environment is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

Duration & Location
This is a permanent position.

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
