Our ambition is that Eka Chemicals shall be the most competitive supplier to the Pulp & Paper industry. Our mission is to develop, implement and own Eka's technologies and be leading in operational excellence. We create sustainable and continuous improvements of Eka's technologies and provide solutions for profitable business concepts.
The Process R&D department focuses on research and development of existing and new chemical manufacturing processes and develops efficient production processes for new products.
For long term development of our global chlorate process competence we are now looking for one industrial PhD student (in a total of two) for the project "Electrocatalytic properties of compounds formed at the cathode surface during industrial chlorate production". The project will be carried out partly at the University of Gothenburg, partly at Eka Chemicals R&D center in Bohus, about 80% of the PhD students time will be divided between these two. The PhD student is expected to spend 20% of the time working as a R&D Engineer in the Process R&D department at Eka Chemicals. The PhD project has a total time of 5 years.
Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter:
The focus of the PhD work is controlled preparation and characterization of cathode deposits formed during electrolysis in a chlorate cell. Another emphasis is the theoretical description using advanced computational chemistry methods. Thermodynamics of the concentrated electrolytes characteristic for the process will also be paid special attention.
Carry out the PhD research work according to the plans agreed.
Plan and carry out activities that support the projects and activities within Eka.
Actively engage with our South America organization, in particular in Brazil.
Beskrivning av kvalifikationer:
University Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar disciplines.
Good practical capability for experimental work in lab, pilot and production environment
Interest in the fundamentals of electro catalysis and electrolyte properties. Previous experience with Monte Carlo simulations and Molecular Dynamic calculations is qualifying.
Good communication skills, particularly in English & Portuguese, both oral and in writing. Skills in additional languages in geographies relevant to the business are welcome.
We are looking for someone who is a good team player and communicator, and willing to take a strong responsibility for delivering results while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
