We are building a state-of-the-art facility and a world-class team of technologists for R&D into next-generation battery cells, and we need your help in making it happen.

Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world. Northvolt is a leading supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems, dedicated to delivering the world's greenest lithium-ion battery.

Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars.

This is a formidable challenge that presents us with a unique technological scope - to develop cell technology that is integrated in the vehicle design to meet safety, performance and sustainability requirements. As a cell design engineer, you'll play a key role in making this reality!

Our Team
We're a rapidly growing team based in the heart of Swedish vehicle and tech innovation in Gothenburg. We've just opened the doors to our first R&D lab and are already busy planning and building a true state-of-the-art facility for our world-class team of technologists, scientists and researchers to develop next-generation battery cell technology.

At present, we're in start-up mode and offer an environment of unfettered opportunities, growth and technological possibilities. Backed by Volvo and Northvolt, we have the necessary investment, smarts, talent and support to make this happen. Today we are a small and flat organization with teammates from all over the globe, together we grow the team to attract the best talent in the world and we share the responsibility to make all newcomers feel welcomed. We have fun together while innovating for a climate-neutral way of life for future generations.

What You'll Do

-
Plan, create, implement, and optimize designs for several types of next-generation Li-ion cells.

-
Gather, analyze, and validate test data to improve cell and electrode properties.

-
Introduce and evaluate new materials that will improve energy density, cycle life, and safety.

-
Develop physicochemical characterization techniques to determine performance correlation between physical properties and composition.

-
Work closely with the Cell Integration team and other cross-functional stakeholders to make sure the final product meets immediate technical goals and long-term manufacturability requirements.

Your Background

We see that you have participated in large-scale R&D projects, preferably in a start-up environment, involving technical depth across multiple disciplines. You are eager to learn and understand our large-scale production processes.

-
A relevant university degree in engineering or a pure science.

-
3+ years of laboratory experience within the battery sector.

-
Experience working with broad experimental campaigns involving large data sets. Ability to make statistically-informed inferences from experimental data and translate them into cell design improvements.

-
Experience in material and electrochemical characterization and analysis.

You are a proactive problem-solver, highly organized and flexible, who anticipates setbacks. You appreciate clear communication and gathering around shared goals. You bring grit, a "can do" attitude, and passion to day-to-day work.
