Do you want to be part of building a new logistics and supply chain solutions business inside a global industry leader?
This role is part of a new business unit in the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Group called Digital Supply Chain Solutions. The vision of the Digital Supply Chain Solutions business unit is to become the leading neutral supply chain and mobility orchestrator for the global outbound finished rolling goods industry.
The Business Development Manager role belongs to the Business Development and Supply Chain Advisory function that offers Supply Chain solutions, optimization and expert advice to customers. The role reports to the Vice President of Business Development and Advisory

Join a small but growing team of supply chain experts

As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for driving the growth of our solutions in targeted industries. Solutions will include digital products tailored for the outbound supply chain, supply chain management solutions as well as more traditional logistics and freight forwarding services.

The role will collaborate closely with supply chain project managers and analysts and the rest of the organization to develop concepts and solutions to achieve growth, while also being the advocate of the customer needs inside the business unit.

By joining us in the early phase of our journey, you will be expected to contribute to the development of our product offering and the way we deliver value to our customers.
Specific responsibilities include:
Drive growth of the company's revenue across products and targeted industries
Develop new business opportunities for existing and new customers
Build deep relationships and trust with customers, and manage accounts through the lifecycle

Associated tasks include:
Develop an individual sales strategy that is anchored in the overall ambition of the business unit.
Conduct market research and analysis to stay informed about trends and developments in global and local markets.
Identify and develop new business opportunities with the objective of continuously having a strong opportunity pipeline (using the CRM system in structured and disciplined manner).
Develop value propositions and solutions that address the identified gaps and needs of potential customers.
Develop commercial proposals and secure necessary approvals in line with Group Delegation of Authority.
Negotiate and close business deal.
Account management, with responsibility for profitability and growth.

We are looking for experienced and passionate supply chain experts to help our customers' Supply Chains perform better
The successful candidate is expected to be able to develop new business growth based both on existing relationships and well-known customer needs, as well as from scratch to new customer segments. This requires you to be a natural self-starter who is able to see opportunities and take the initiative to develop solutions.

Being able to collaborate successfully with supply chain project managers and analysts, as well as the rest of the business unit, is a necessity. Ultimately, business development is a team sport.

The ability to build deep relationships, also at more senior levels, and trust with customers is key. You are also expected to be able to combine the new business generation role with account management. Therefore, a track record of achieving customer satisfaction and growth with existing customers will be seen as a merit.

We are looking for talent with a strategic mindset combined with the capability and willingness to go into details of the supply chain process. We believe that successful candidates have sales experience in the logistics industry. This, in combination with a strong drive and motivation to meet targets, is considered an attractive profile.

An established network in the outbound vehicle/equipment logistics industry is a merit, but not a requirement.
Being curious and passionate about logistics and supply chains and being a continuous learner in these domains is a prerequisite to succeeding in the role. We believe this can compensate for a certain lack of experience.

We believe a mix of more experienced and younger talent is good for business. We do, however, believe that a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience is required to succeed in the role.
The workplace
As a small but growing business unit, it is important for us to purposefully think about building and scaling local teams in the same locations to support our team members with leadership, culture, and belonging. Potential locations for this role, at this stage of our development, include Belgium (Antwerp), Germany (Bremen/Bremerhaven), Sweden (Gothenburg), and the US (New Jersey). If you are not in any of these areas today but are willing to relocate, we would gladly support you with the move (reasonable relocation package, employment on local terms). However, we are open to discussing alternative locations with the right talents.

We believe in a hybrid and flexible workplace where team spirit and collaboration are key ingredients. To support this, our aim is to have the office as our common base for three days a week. However, as a business development manager, you can also expect regular travel to form part of your overall hybrid workplace.

We are an equal-opportunity employer strongly believing in diversity and a values-driven culture. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a global environment with colleagues and stakeholders from different cultures and countries where English is the working language.

We offer you the chance to be part of building a new business with the backing and stability of a global industry leader. As part of your application, please include your CV and a cover letter explaining your motivation for wanting to join us and why you are a good fit for the role.
