Description of the job offer: The role is to assist in the research and development of an artificial wearable lung through devising mathematical models for various aspects of its manufacture and operation. Projects will include, but not be restricted to, modeling the formation and loss of cell coatings of biomaterial surfaces within the device, modeling gas exchange inside the artificial lung, and modeling the immune response to the device when placed in situ. The overall aim is to use mathematical modeling to understand, predict and optimize such processes. The candidate will be expected to have expertise in applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, biomedical engineering, fluid dynamics, and numerical computing. The candidate should also have a strong interest in applying mathematical models to problems in regenerative medicine and to the progression of diseases of the lungs.
