Position description:

Our Advanced Battery Technology (ABT) department is creating a strong foundation of skills and we are therefore looking for a 'Battery Algorithm Engineer' who will be part of the ABT organization and responding to the Manager SW-ABT, with strong responsibility in designing algorithms for advanced battery management system (BMS) from ideation to reality. The main role will be algorithm development for new lithium-ion cell chemistries, new advanced algorithms for battery state estimation, robust and hardware/code-optimized.

Vast knowledge about best engineering practices related to automotive battery systems and its BMS is a high priority.

Description/Role:

• Determine battery model parameters for new cell chemistries
• Development of on-line adaptive estimators (e.g. Kalman filter, Recursive Least Squares (RLS) etc) for battery state- and parameter estimation
• Battery modeling, implementation and validation of the battery models with Rapid Control Prototyping and on current BMS Hardware
• Run hardware-in-the-Loop with Battery Simulator
• Deriving requirements and demands for new BMS hardware and software
• Design and implementation of hardware-related functions for a component of the battery system

• Develop model-based battery monitoring software/algorithms

• Expert in the area of Battery Management System (BMS) and professional support of team members

• Develop interfaces among various blocks/components of the battery management system
• Development of software testing strategy, prototyping and performance measurements
• Design and realization of functions of the "functional safety"

Skills and required experience:

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Minimum education of a Master of Science in Mechatronics-, Electrical-, or Computer Engineering. Having solid educational background in

systems and control is preferable. In particular, a candidate should be familiar with linear and nonlinear system theory, estimation theory,

signal processing, and system identification techniques.

• Must have at least 3-5 years of development experience of battery management systems for automotive applications. In particular, the

candidate must have hands on experience with implementation of model-based estimation of battery states and parameters using nonlinear

filtering methods like extended Kalman filter. At least three years' work experience in a comparable role.

• Must have good understanding of internal battery dynamics including knowledge about mass transport, double-layer, and long-term ageing effects.

In particular, the candidate must know at least about ECM-based electro-thermal battery models. Basic knowledge of battery diagnosis using

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy is meritorious.

• Must have solid hands on experience in software development processes in general and real-time embedded C/C++ programming in particular

for automotive applications. Must have very good knowledge in ECU and embedded software architectures.

• Must have good overview of battery research literature and current state-of-art in battery estimation and control algorithms. Having research

background and publications related to battery management systems will be considered as a merit.

• Having experience with code verification and validation is meritorious.
• Excellent understanding of mechanical and electronic items of an automotive battery system
• Advanced understanding of firmware development with knowledge of microcontrollers as well as knowledge of SW architecture and standards like ASIL, AutoSAR
• Experience with Battery management software development, using C and tools like Matlab/Simulink, CANalyzer, CANoe, Stateflow and TargetLink.
• Experience in measurement and fault analysis using Vector CANape or equivalent
• Several years of experience in series development of software in the automotive sector as well as knowledge of ISO26262
• Automated code generation
• Hardware-in-the-Loop
• Very good English language skills, both spoken and written
• Driver license B
