Would you like to be part of building the most sought-after streaming service in the Nordics - with the ambition to become the European streaming champion? Launching our fantastic product in new markets is a NENT corporate strategy and a top priority.

We are now looking for a new Backend Developer with search function experience who will play a big part in improving this function in our platform to enhance our user experience and create the next generation of streaming services. Are you our next colleague?

The position
As a Backend Developer - Search, you will be joining our Inspiration & Navigation team within Viaplay and be a big part of developing the search function in our platform. Our search today is a Java-based service using Lucene directly. We are now in the journey of migrating from Java and Lucene towards Node.js and Elasticsearch which will allow us to do a greater range of fast experiments on new search features.

You will be involved in the whole development lifecycle (definition, development, maintenance, etc.) and everyday work will consist of development, design, complexity assessment, test and deployment and much more. We thrive in using cutting edge technology, always keeping up to date and constantly challenging status quo.

You will join a kick-ass cross-functional team - with client and backend developers and product management - and deliver engineering solutions aligned with technical and product long-term visions. The team delivers on clear goals based on our customer journey and are fully autonomous in how to create the best solutions to reach their goals. In other words, if you are into working in an innovative way and done with just delivering on Jira tickets all day - we have an offer you can't refuse!

The journey ahead
During 2021, we have brought Viaplay to the Baltics and will also go live in Poland and the US. You will join the Inspiration and Navigation team and deliver search solutions to our video content platform. In building our search function migration you will be one of the important driving forces into increasing the user experience.

Some of your daily challenges will include - but not be limited to:

• Be the innovative and curious developer building our cutting edge search solutions
• Create customer value by building resilient and high performing micro-services.
• Utilize real time customer behavior data and machine learning based recommendations to improve the search experience for over 3 million customers.

What we are looking for
To be our next colleague, we believe that you are an experienced programmer that enjoys taking responsibility for your own work. You have experience in building strong search functions and enjoys a role where you will take the initiative and working with and explore new technology to improve our content platform.

Successful candidates also meet the following requirements:

• Strong search experience.
• Experience in search platforms for example Lucene, Elasticsearch or Solr
• Familiarity with Node.js or Java
• Interest and motivation to work with modern frameworks.
• Experience in analyzing customer behavior data
• A team player that wants to grow within the craftmanship.

Bonus requirements that will make you stand out from the rest:

• Experience in developing services in the cloud, preferably AWS

• An agile approach, freedom to try out new things and independent decision-making by our autonomous teams.
• A place to grow and learn from our mistakes. We have a learning and development focused environment with an emphasis on knowledge sharing, training and regular internal technical talks, pair programming and mob programming.
