Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 42 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

The Faculty of Medicine is a part of Lund University, and is responsible for education and research within medicine and healthcare. Our academic programs are closely linked with the healthcare system and are firmly anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. Our research spans a broad field within experimental preclinical research, near-patient clinical research and health sciences research. The Faculty of Medicine, with its 1,800 employees and 2,700 students in Lund and Malmö, is a knowledge-intensive meeting place for students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.

Our research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Science, Lund University, is looking to fill an assistant researcher position, full-time, with the main focus on sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling during hypertension.

Our interdisciplinary group concentrates on the investigation of cellular signaling pathways and pathophysiological mechanisms, which underlie changes in vascular homeostasis during hypertension. To identify potential target structures for new therapies, we study cellular functions in transgenic models of vascular dementia using a wide array of in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo methods. We offer a project in a motivated international research team, the possibility to apply state-of-the-art techniques and the possibility of project-related research stays with our collaborative partners abroad.

Job description: The position holder will participate in a research project to investigate the involvement of STAT3-mediated inflammatory responses during hypertension in mouse models. The project will mainly engage the use of the following techniques: in vivo work in mouse models (incl. cell injections, different treatment routines), ex vivo examinations of different tissues using histological, biochemical and immunological methods, in vitro studies of different cell types using biochemical and immunological methods.

Qualifications: Qualification requirements for the position are:

- Solid knowledge in JAK-STAT signal transduction and proven experience in the investigation of STAT3 activation and signaling.
- Previous practical experience in work with mouse models (incl. cell injections, different treatment routines such as oral treatment, i.p. injections, tail vein injections, intracardiac injections, intratibial injections in mouse models), and the ability to independently perform extensive cellular and molecular analyses of different murine and human tissues are required.
- Good knowledge of inflammation-associated molecular signaling, and good English language skills (speaking and writing) are required.
- Desirable techniques include Western blotting, qPCR, EMSA, IP, Transfections, Luciferase Assay, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and cell culture.
- Phd in Medical Science and international experience

The successful applicant must be able to independently design and perform experiments, run statistical analyses, interpret the data and present the results through publications and at international meetings.

Previous experience with microscopy, in vivo imaging approaches as well as statistical software (such as GraphPad and SPSS) is considered to be a merit. Interest in international exchange is strongly encouraged.

Type of employment: Temporary employment, 100 %, 171015 - 180414.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
