The WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring was created in 1968 to ensure that early signs of previously unknown medicine-related safety problems are identified and information about them shared and acted upon. Today the WHO Programme consists of more than 120 member countries across the world.

Aim of position:

To assess needs and provide scientific and operational support, education and training to existing and future member countries in the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring, academic institutions, and adjacent stakeholders. To perform tasks within the Global Services section according to priorities in the section's 1-year plan and UMCs long-term plan.

Main responsibilities:

• Promote and help countries create sustainable pharmacovigilance systems, to implement best pharmacovigilance practices and global standards
• Encourage local and regional initiatives by providing education and training and tailor-made support and guidance, especially to countries that are members of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring or aspire to be so
• To support communication and sharing of pharmacovigilance knowledge globally
• Provide support for collection, management and sharing of adverse drug reaction information for countries participating in the WHO Programme and assist member countries in their use of UMC tools, products and services
• Provide support in developing and implementing scientific methods and technical solutions
• Build partnerships that bring together resources, expertise and a shared vision
• Evaluate impact and success of UMC capacity building activities

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a relevant academic degree in the field of life sciences e.g. Pharmacy, biomedicine, nursing or similar. You have a minimum 2 years of related work experience. The person we are looking for is someone who has knowledge of pharmaceutical products, medical terminology as well as data management and database knowledge. Experience from drug safety and education & training is a valuable. Our organisation's operational language is English and all applicants must be fluent in oral and written English. The ability to work professionally in an additional language is also a merit. Excellent communication skills and organizational and coordination skills are required. You enjoy working in innovative and international environments and have an energetic and extrovert personality. You are proactive and curious and find it exciting to build and maintain professional relationships. International travelling is required.
