hela Sverige Eat wood? Results from new research show that some yeast can transform wood and other raw materials into lipids (fat) and food grade proteins. This could have a major importance for sustainably supplying food for the growing population. However, how can such systems be designed to be as efficient and environmentally friendly as possible?
As a doctoral student you will study processes and systems for the production of food and fish feed from lignocellulosic raw materials such as wood and grain straw. The research includes determining resource consumption and environmental impact in the life cycle perspective for these systems, including both the production of biomass and the industrial processes, as well as final product use. The research will primarily be conducted within a larger project in collaboration with several departments and expertise within SLU.
The Department of energy and technology at land, water and environmental center (MVM) offers a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with both national and international focus. Involved supervisors have a lot of experience in doctoral education and the department has a well-functioning structure for the education.
Qualifications
Degree at advanced level in natural sciences or technology with specialization in system analysis, environment or food. Knowledge in life cycle assessment (LCA) and process modeling are considered as a merit. The holder of the position must be able to communicate well in English. The work involves communication and collaboration with different fields of research, therefore we put great emphasis on personal qualities.

A person has basic eligibility for third cycle education if he or she has taken a second cycle qualification or has completed course
requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second cycle education. Upper secondary school grades equivalent to English B/English 6 are a basic requirement.
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
